World Cup hat-trick hero Jonathan David and Swiss wonderkid Johan Manzambi set for Premier League moves?

Jonathan David stood on the pitch in Vancouver on Tuesday night having just scored a hat-trick in Canada's 6-0 rout of Qatar, a win that earned the co-hosts their first World Cup victory at the eighth attempt. More than 50,000 fans witnessed the historic night – and the 26-year-old's treble was not just a personal milestone. It made him the first Juventus player to score a World Cup hat-trick since Italy's Paolo Rossi in 1982.

David's performance came just days after Switzerland's Johan Manzambi wrote his name into the tournament's record books. Aged 20 years and 247 days, the substitute became the youngest player in World Cup history to score two or more goals in a game as a substitute, dismantling Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1.

World Cup hat-trick hero Jonathan David and youngest-ever substitute scorer Johan Manzambi are linked with Premier League moves.

Both players have been linked with moves to the Premier League. David, Canada's all-time leading scorer with 39 goals in 78 international appearances, already has a track record in Europe – he made his name at Gent in Belgium, turned into a Ligue 1 goalscoring machine at Lille, and joined Juventus in 2025. Now reports suggest Newcastle are interested in him, with Juventus reportedly willing to let him go to free up their summer budget. Leeds United have also reportedly been made aware of his availability, while several other Premier League clubs are linked.

Former England forward Dion Dublin, who witnessed Canada's win for BBC Radio 5 Live, was impressed. "He has been great, got himself a nice hat-trick," Dublin said. "Really good centre-forward play."

Manzambi, for his part, inspired Switzerland's victory and has also been linked with a move to England. The 20-year-old's emergence adds to a tournament that has already produced 89 goals in 28 games across Mexico, Canada and the United States, with two wonderful hat-tricks among them.

As the World Cup continues to serve as the biggest shop window in football, the question remains: will these two goal-scorers be playing in the Premier League next season?
