Youri Tielemans jets in for Manchester United medical as summer window heats up

Youri Tielemans touched down in Manchester on Monday evening, with the Aston Villa midfielder set to undergo a medical after Manchester United moved quickly to seal their second signing of the summer window. The 28-year-old Belgian’s arrival at Carrington follows United’s £50m capture of Andrey Santos from Chelsea earlier on Monday, with the Brazilian international hailing former Red Devils coach Michael Carrick as he put pen to paper.

Santos, 22, becomes the first signing of United’s summer rebuild, but the club’s midfield overhaul is far from complete. Tielemans is expected to add Premier League experience to a department that has also been linked with a shock move for Ederson – though Mirror Football has clarified the Brazilian is not currently a target.

Across Manchester, Arsenal are also stepping up their activity. The Gunners have revived their interest in Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, with sources confirming they are “jumpstarting” a move for the Argentina forward. Simultaneously, Bruno Guimaraes remains a prime target for Mikel Arteta, though Arsenal’s failure to land Johan Manzambi – after Aston Villa hijacked Newcastle’s deal for the Freiburg star – could accelerate their pursuit of the Newcastle midfielder.

Villa have agreed to sign World Cup breakout star Manzambi, hijacking Newcastle’s move for the Freiburg forward. The Spaniard’s arrival at Villa Park adds to a busy window that has already seen them lose Youri Tielemans to United.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are set for a £10m windfall from Mason Greenwood’s permanent transfer to Fenerbahce, with the deal now fully agreed. The Red Devils inserted a sell-on clause when Greenwood left for Marseille two years ago, and his four-year contract in Turkey triggers the payment.

Elsewhere, Tottenham’s Djed Spence could be on the move. Inter Milan have entered the race for the England defender, who has impressed at the World Cup, while Everton have already registered an interest. Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi may deem Spence surplus to requirements despite his strong performances in Qatar.

With the summer window still in full swing, the flurry of deals on Monday suggests the market is only just beginning to accelerate.
