Arsenal step up Barcola chase as PSG set new asking price

Arsenal are set to intensify their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola after receiving encouragement that the 23-year-old could be available this summer. Representatives of the Gunners intend to watch Barcola in France’s World Cup last-32 match against Sweden on Tuesday night, as the club steps up its scouting mission.

Barcola has emerged as a strong alternative to Morgan Rogers, the Aston Villa forward who remains Arsenal’s leading target. However, Villa’s £130m valuation of the 23-year-old England international has proved a stumbling block, prompting Arsenal’s recruitment staff to focus on Barcola.

A potential deal for Barcola would cost significantly less than Rogers, whose contract with Villa runs until 2031. Barcola’s current deal with the Champions League holders expires in the summer of 2028, giving PSG less leverage. The situation is further complicated by RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande’s protracted move to PSG, which could have implications for Barcola’s future.

Liverpool are also believed to be tracking Barcola, adding competition for Arsenal. PSG have set a new asking price for the winger, though the figure has not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also exploring the market for a replacement for second-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose future is in doubt. They have a strong interest in Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who has lost his place as number one and is out of contract this summer, making him available on a free transfer.
