BBC launches spoiler-free World Cup highlights service for UK fans

For millions of fans across the UK, the next few weeks will pose a familiar dilemma: stay up through the night to watch the World Cup live, or save the action for the morning after. But until now, avoiding the score has been almost impossible — unless you unplug from the world entirely.

The BBC believes it has the answer. From 11 June 2026, the broadcaster is offering a dedicated no-spoilers page at bbc.co.uk/nospoilers. “This page will take you direct to a World Cup highlights page on BBC iPlayer, which will have highlights for every match without telling you who has won,” the BBC said.

The catch? A hint might slip through. “It might give you a hint as to what's happened — if there has been a seven-goal thriller, for example — but we won't be giving you the winner or the result,” the broadcaster explained. Fans can bookmark the link and visit directly, allowing them to watch highlights “in blissful ignorance of what happens”.

For those watching on a television, the BBC suggests heading to the World Cup destination page on iPlayer. The service runs alongside the usual coverage on the BBC Sport website and app, which continue to provide full results and updates.

The initiative comes as a response to a perennial problem for British viewers: time zones mean key matches often kick off in the middle of the night. Rather than abandon live viewing entirely, the BBC aims to let fans enjoy the drama without the spoiler risk.

But there is a note of caution. “Just don't come complaining to us if it means you've spent seven minutes watching highlights of a 0-0 draw…” the BBC quipped.
