A two-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a car smashed through the fence of a nursery playground and into a group of children. Two other youngsters were also injured in the incident at Partou Sunny Days Nursery and Pre-school in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, shortly before 10am on Monday.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene on Vale Road in the Whitby area after the grey Omoda vehicle ploughed through a painted green fence and into the play area. Witnesses reported seeing two ambulances, an air ambulance, a fire engine and four police vehicles – including an armed response unit – at the nursery.

The two-year-old boy suffered serious injuries, while two further children were hurt in the crash. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The vehicle involved is being removed from the scene as officers continue their investigation.
Partou Sunny Days Nursery and Pre-school confirmed they were 'dealing with an incident' and have closed for the day. The nursery has not yet commented further on the circumstances of the crash.
