Brighton smash club record to land Vuskovic as Greenwood joins Fenerbahce

Brighton have signed Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for a club-record £46m – a deal that could rise to £50m with add-ons – while Mason Greenwood has completed his move to Fenerbahce for a fee of up to £38.36m.

Vuskovic, 19, joins on a five-year contract with an option for a further year, replacing Netherlands centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke who moved in the opposite direction for £52m. The Seagulls had two bids for Vuskovic turned down last month before finally securing the player who started for Croatia against England in the World Cup group stages last month.

“Last season he demonstrated he can play at a very high level and we want to help him build on that within our environment,” said Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler. “There’s been a lot of external noise about Luka joining us, but he is still a young guy who will need time to adjust to the demands of playing for Brighton and the Premier League. We are confident that he will take this in his stride though.”

Vuskovic joined Tottenham in 2025 from Hajduk Split, the club where he came through the academy and became the youngest player to feature in Croatia’s top flight at just 16. After a loan at Hamburg, he made 30 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring six goals and earning Rookie of the Season and a spot in the Team of the Year. He has six senior caps for Croatia.

Brighton begin their Premier League campaign at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, 23 August.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce have signed English forward Mason Greenwood from Marseille on a four-year contract. The Turkish club stated the transfer fee is 39m euros (£33.27m) but had previously advised it would be a total of 45m euros (£38.36m). Greenwood finished joint-second in the Ligue 1 golden boot standings last season with 16 goals, behind Rennes’ Esteban Lepaul.

“Hello Fenerbahce family, thank you so much for the support you have shown me. I am very happy to be here,” Greenwood said.

Greenwood scored 48 goals in 81 appearances for Marseille after joining from Manchester United in July 2024 for £26.6m. United negotiated a “sizeable sell-on fee”, thought to be around 40%, for the academy product. United had ruled out Greenwood returning despite charges of attempted rape and assault against him being dropped in February 2023; he subsequently spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Getafe.

Fenerbahce, who finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for the fifth successive season, will face Poland’s Gornik Zabrze in the Champions League second qualifying round this month.
