A British TikToker could face death by firing squad after being charged with premeditated murder in Dubai. Brooke George, 23, a former John Lewis shop assistant from Gravesend, was arrested as she tried to board a flight home to Britain. She is accused of stabbing 26-year-old William Treeby, also from Kent, to death after flying to the United Arab Emirates to meet him.
George claims she acted in self-defence after what she described as repeated abuse. According to pressure group Detained in Dubai, she met her lover on Facebook and the first week-long visit was positive. But during her second visit, his behaviour allegedly changed 'dramatically' – he became 'controlling and abusive'.
“British TikToker Brooke George, 23, charged with premeditated murder in Dubai and could face death by firing squad.”
On the day of the stabbing, George claims the man became intoxicated and assaulted her in Jumeirah Village. She contacted her family in a state of panic after being 'repeatedly punched' and arranged a flight home with friends. When she returned to her apartment to collect her passport, she said she found her possessions strewn across the flat. She alleged she was 'punched hard in the face and attacked' when she begged for her passport back.
Fearing for her life, George says she grabbed a kitchen knife 'within her grasp' and stabbed him. She took her passport, left the flat, and tried to flee the UAE, but was arrested at Dubai airport and charged with premeditated murder.
Her mother, Thereza George, said: 'I am deeply concerned for her welfare. The daughter I spoke to that night was utterly terrified. I firmly believe she was desperately trying to get home and away from whatever had happened to her.'
George is now being held in the notorious Bur Dubai Police Station, where Detained in Dubai says she has been forced to strip naked in front of male officers. Her family also claim she has been denied legal representation and left unable to understand proceedings due to a language barrier.
The group’s Stirling called on the UAE to provide 'protection, appropriate medical care, legal representation and immediate British consular assistance', adding: 'Investigators must consider the possibility Brooke was a victim of serious violence, not just a suspect.'
