An air ambulance helicopter was seen at the scene on Friday night before taking off. The following morning, Chelmsford Central Parkrun cancelled its Saturday event “on police advice”.

Detective Inspector Lydia George said: “This is a deeply distressing incident. A family is grieving, and our thoughts remain firmly with them at this incredibly difficult time.” She called on the public and media to respect the family’s privacy as the investigation continues.

George confirmed that police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident and that there is “no ongoing risk to the public”. She added: “This took place in a busy public area, and while we have already received valuable assistance from the public, we continue to appeal for information. Even the smallest detail could prove crucial.”
