Police investigating a sitting MP on suspicion of multiple sexual offences have handed their evidence to prosecutors, with a decision on whether to charge him now in the hands of the Crown Prosecution Service.
Dan Norris, the 66-year-old Labour MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, faces allegations of rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, as well as voyeurism and upskirting. The offences are said to have taken place between the 2000s and 2020s.
“Police submit file to CPS for charging decision after suspended Labour MP Dan Norris is arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.”
Detectives from Avon and Somerset Police’s Operation Bluestone – the force’s dedicated rape and serious sexual assault investigation team – began their probe in December 2024. Norris was first arrested in April 2025.
“As a result of our enquiries, a file has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider a charging decision,” the force said. “We’ve updated the victims about this significant development, and we’ll continue to make sure they have access to any help or support they need. We’d respectfully ask people not to speculate on the circumstances so the investigation can continue unhindered.”
Norris, who served as the West of England mayor before returning to Westminster, has consistently denied the allegations. “I vigorously and entirely deny the serious allegations made against me. They are untrue,” he said previously. “I am challenging them through my legal representatives.”
The Labour Party said it “immediately suspended” Norris after being informed of his arrest. The suspension strips him of the party whip, meaning he cannot sit as a Labour MP in the Commons. While he has refused to step down from his parliamentary seat and now sits as an independent, he has not attended the House of Commons since his arrest, though he retains the ability to vote by proxy.
