A 50-year-old man died shortly after arriving at hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the A709 near Lochfield, Lochmaben, on Saturday evening. The driver of a black Vauxhall Vectra was pronounced dead a short time after being rushed to hospital with two other casualties, both from a white Citroen Dispatch involved in the crash.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.35pm. Paramedics treated three people before transporting them urgently to hospital. The 67-year-old man and 55-year-old woman from the Citroen remain in a serious condition, fighting for their lives.

Crash scene investigators closed the road for roughly eight hours to examine the site, and the A709 was officially reopened at around 3.30am on Sunday.
Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died at this time. Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around this time to contact us. In addition, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.”
Police Scotland have launched a full investigation and are actively seeking information from the public. The cause of the crash remains unclear as inquiries continue.
