Man arrested after car ploughs into pedestrians outside Ealing M&S

A 34-year-old Somalia-born British man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car struck multiple pedestrians outside Marks & Spencer on Ealing Broadway on Saturday afternoon, leaving five people injured and three in hospital.

The Met Police said the vehicle hit pedestrians at about 2.30pm before speeding away, but was stopped “a short time later” in nearby Grange Park. Footage circulating online showed bystanders running alongside a white car, kicking it and attempting to open the driver’s door before it accelerated.

Counter-terrorism policing London conducted initial inquiries but the incident is not being treated as terrorism, the force said, adding that investigators are “keeping an open mind as to any potential motive”.

Alexander Stafford, a former councillor for Ealing Broadway, described the scene as “absolutely horrific”. He posted on X: “Praying for a speedy recovery for all the injured.”

Three people were taken to hospital – one of them to a major trauma centre as a priority, according to the London Ambulance Service, which also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. Two others were treated at the scene. All injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening or life-changing.

The Broadway remains closed in both directions between High Street and Spring Bridge Road, with several bus routes diverted. Police have urged anyone with footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference 4607/27JUN.
