Two easyJet flights took off from wrong runway positions, AAIB report reveals

An easyJet flight carrying 180 passengers climbed to just 65ft above the ground after taking off from the wrong point on a Luton runway, a report has revealed. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch found that on 13 June 2025, an Airbus A320-214 operating flight EZY2335 departed from further down the runway than the crew had planned. The aircraft landed at Málaga and returned to Luton later that day before the captain realised the mistake. Three weeks later, on 6 July 2025, another easyJet Airbus 320 departing Manchester for the Greek island of Kos also took off from the wrong runway position. That flight continued without further problems, but investigators described the event as a ‘serious safety occurrence’ that could have had more significant consequences under different circumstances. EasyJet said it has conducted a review of its take-off operating procedures and fully assisted with the investigation. ‘We will always take action to ensure we maintain the highest standards of safety,’ a spokesperson said. Separately, the airline has issued guidance on securing cheaper fares, advising passengers to book flights on Wednesdays or Thursdays rather than Fridays, and noting that January and February are the cheapest months for warm-weather destinations, while November and March are best for winter trips. EasyJet operates a fleet of 355 aircraft, connecting 164 airports in 38 countries through 1,207 routes, and urges customers to use its Low Fare Finder to find the best deals.
