Ederson extends Atalanta deal after Man Utd medical collapse – as Chelsea hijacks £117m Rogers move

Brazil midfielder Ederson has signed a contract extension at Atalanta, just weeks after a £35m move to Manchester United collapsed over medical concerns. United had agreed the fee for the 27-year-old on 2 June, but a planned medical in early July was scrapped when Ederson received a late call-up for Brazil's World Cup squad following an injury to Wesley. After initial tests in the United States flagged an area of concern, he flew to England for further tests following Brazil's World Cup exit to Norway. Specialists were consulted, and the outcome led United to back out of the transfer. While sources told BBC Sport the deal could have been resurrected on different terms, Ederson has instead extended his stay at the Serie A side—the length of his new deal was not announced.

United have since moved to reinforce their midfield, signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea, as well as goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United. They are also reportedly in contact with the representatives of Eintracht Frankfurt talent Hugo Larsson, continuing their summer overhaul under Michael Carrick.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have hijacked Arsenal's pursuit of Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, reaching a verbal agreement worth £117m. Arsenal had been tracking Rogers but now look set to miss out, though they have agreed personal terms with Christos Tzolis. The summer window continues to deliver twists, with Ederson's extension the latest in a series of dramatic turns.
