Anthony Canty, the father-of-two who won £1m on the Euromillions days after saving a police officer's life, has died in a suspected hit-and-run. The 39-year-old water supply worker from Maldon was knocked off his bicycle in Tiptree, Essex, at 06:30 BST on 21 May. He died in hospital four days later.
Canty had given the police officer CPR when he collapsed on a bus in April 2020. Days later, on 5 May, he and his partner Katie Sullivan won the Euromillions jackpot, spraying champagne while holding their giant cheque. He vowed not to give up his day job but planned to take his daughters to Disneyland when travel restrictions eased.

Essex Police said the driver of a black Ford KA, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop. He allegedly fled the scene in Maldon Road. The driver has been released under investigation. "He remains under investigation and our enquiries continue," a police spokesman said, appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage to come forward.
Canty's death has shocked the community. Just six years ago, he was on the bus home from Witham train station when the police officer collapsed "in [his] lap". He rang the bell to stop the bus and gave CPR with help from the 999 operator and first aid training from work. The lottery win followed days later, a twist of fortune that now ends in tragedy.
Police continue to investigate the collision. The driver's identity has not been released.
