File sent to CPS over rape allegations against suspended Labour MP Dan Norris

Police investigating the suspended Labour MP Dan Norris have submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service, raising the prospect of charges over allegations that include rape against three women.

Norris, the 66-year-old MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, was first arrested in April 2025. The allegations, all of which he “vigorously and entirely” denies, span from the 2000s to the 2020s and also include sexual assault against a fourth woman, voyeurism and upskirting.

The investigation is being led by officers from Operation Bluestone, Avon and Somerset Police’s dedicated rape and serious sexual assault team. It began in December 2024.

“As a result of our enquiries, a file has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider a charging decision,” the force said. “We’ve updated the victims about this significant development, and we’ll continue to make sure they have access to any help or support they need. We’d respectfully ask people not to speculate on the circumstances so the investigation can continue unhindered.”

Norris, a former West of England mayor, previously said: “I vigorously and entirely deny the serious allegations made against me. They are untrue. I am challenging them through my legal representatives.”

The Labour Party said it “immediately suspended” Norris after being made aware of his arrest, removing the party whip and barring him from sitting as a Labour MP in the Commons. Despite the suspension, Norris has refused to step down from his position as an MP. He now sits as an independent but has not attended the House of Commons since his arrest, though he is still able to vote by proxy.

Norris has been approached for further comment. Avon and Somerset Police has not named the man at the centre of the investigation.
