A three-year-old girl has been found dead at a residential property in Chertsey, Surrey, in a suspected murder that police believe took place within a family setting. Officers were called to the home on Pyrcroft Road at around 5.40pm on Thursday after concerns were raised for the child’s safety. They discovered her body and a 31-year-old man suffering serious injuries. The man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment. He will be taken into custody once he has been treated. Surrey Police said there was no reason to believe there was any risk to the public. “At this stage our enquiries lead us to believe that this took place within a family setting and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident,” a police spokesman said. The Senior Investigating Officer from the Major Crime Team described the death as a tragic incident, adding: “Our officers are working hard to build a picture of what happened. We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and at this stage, we are not looking to identify anyone else in connection with our investigation.” A significant police presence will remain on Pyrcroft Road over the coming days. “We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as the significant police presence, will be concerning for local residents and we would like to thank them for their cooperation as we conduct our investigation,” the spokesman said. “We will provide further updates as soon as we are in a position to.” The girl’s body has yet to be formally identified, and a postmortem examination is expected to be carried out in due course.
