Girlguiding has unveiled the first major redesign of its uniform in more than 30 years, a pared-back approach that allows members to wear only a top from the new range to be considered “in uniform”. The aim, the organisation said, is to give its 400,000 members the “freedom to express themselves” while still feeling part of the charity.
The new range, the first full overhaul since 1990, was shaped by feedback from thousands of Guides, Rainbows, Brownies and Rangers who told the charity they valued choice and the ability to style themselves. A Girlguiding survey in June of 2,000 girls aged six to 16 found 93% said they felt most comfortable when able to choose how they dressed.

“Practicality, comfort and sustainability” were at the centre of the redesign, said Girlguiding chief executive Felicity Oswald. “It’s all about providing girls with the freedom to express themselves, whilst feeling part of our amazing organisation.”
The range comprises 30 items of clothing and 15 accessories, priced from £12 for a T‑shirt. Among the design features are hidden pockets in waistbands, thumb holes, and badge sashes that double as cross-body bags. The new look blends the charity’s heritage with modern colours and prints.
Angellica Bell, a Girlguiding ambassador and presenter, said the uniform “empowers girls and volunteers to embrace their individuality”. She added: “The new uniform gives girls and volunteers the freedom to style it the way that suits them.”
Members are not required to buy the new range immediately. The charity’s website explains they can continue wearing the old uniform until they need a replacement. The changes take effect immediately, with the new items available from today.
