Harry and Meghan offered royal residence for first UK family visit in four years

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been offered a royal residence to stay in during their first family trip to the UK in four years, with Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, accompanying them next month. According to BBC News, the family has not yet responded to the invitation, and it remains unclear which estate has been made available – though Prince Harry has previously declined to stay at Buckingham Palace over security concerns about its high-profile nature. The visit, which could last up to two weeks from July 6, coincides with events marking the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham next July.

The last time King Charles saw his grandchildren in person was during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. A source close to Harry told the Daily Mail the Duke wanted to use the trip to show his children his 'homeland' and 'wider family', adding that it had been a 'real point of great sadness' not to have brought them sooner, but safety had to come first. Security arrangements remain unclear; Buckingham Palace has offered no extra provision, and any additional security will be a matter for the Home Office. Harry lost a Court of Appeal challenge against the Home Office over his right to police protection in 2025.

In a BBC interview last year, Prince Harry spoke of his desire for a 'reconciliation' with the Royal Family. He met his father at Clarence House last September – their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024. Yet Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the possibility of the King meeting his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, describing it as a private family matter. Other royal sources, quoted by Metro, suggested the visit could distract from the King's work and reignite discussions about 'personal family dynamics', given Harry's barrage of accusations in his Oprah interview, Netflix documentary and memoir Spare. The Sussexes do not know the King's engagements for July, as he does not share his schedule with them.
