Just before 2am on Friday, a black Cupra Formentor left Liverpool Road in Huyton and slammed into a lamppost, killing four young men instantly. The victims have been named as Jack Diggle, 23; Benjamin Dooley, 23; Andrew Roberts, 24; and Craig Shackleton-Brady, 26.
A fifth man, a 27-year-old passenger, survived the impact and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Jack Diggle’s mother described the last meal they shared on Thursday: “Little did I know that it would be the last time we would spend together,” she said. “The loss of Jack has left a hole in our lives and in our hearts that can never be filled.” Jack, an Everton supporter and keen darts player, had been due to travel to Blackpool that day to watch the darts with friends.
Benjamin Dooley, a sports psychology student who loved football, padel and darts, was remembered by his mother Kerry as “the kindest person I knew with a heart of gold”. She said: “My life is ripped apart and I don’t know how I will do life without you.” His sister Demi added: “My heart is broken. Feels like a terrible dream.”
Andrew Roberts’ family said they were at a “complete loss for words”. A tribute read: “Our worlds are shattered. Life can change in an instant.” His mother Linda called him “my beautiful blue-eyed boy”.
Friends of the four men also paid tribute, with one describing Ben Dooley as “a once in a lifetime person”.
The families now face a future without the sons, brothers and partners they lost in the early hours of Friday morning, their grief captured in words that speak of shattered worlds and hearts that will never fully heal.
