Leeds agree £34.1m fee for Bosnia defender Muharemovic

Leeds United have agreed a £34.1m fee with Italian side Sassuolo for defender Tarik Muharemovic — but the Bosnia-Herzegovina international has yet to agree personal terms or complete a medical, with other Premier League clubs circling. The 23-year-old centre-back would become Daniel Farke’s second signing of the summer, following attacker Harry Wilson’s free transfer from Fulham, and a direct replacement for Pascal Struijk, who joined Brighton for £20m in June. Muharemovic made three appearances at the World Cup, including a last-32 defeat by co-hosts the United States, a match in which he was fouled by Folarin Balogun. The US forward was sent off, though his suspension was later waived by Fifa after an intervention from US President Donald Trump and White House officials. Born in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, Muharemovic began his career at Austrian side Wolfsberger in 2021. He later joined Juventus but never made a first-team appearance, and was sold to Sassuolo in 2025 after a successful loan spell. If the move to Elland Road goes through, Juventus are reportedly set to receive 50% of the fee because of a clause included in the sale last summer.
