A Liberal Democrat MP has been arrested and suspended from the party pending the outcome of a police investigation. Cameron Thomas, the MP for Tewkesbury, was arrested by Gloucestershire Police on Wednesday night, a party spokesperson confirmed.
“Cameron Thomas MP has had the party whip suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation,” the spokesperson said. “We are unable to comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”

Thomas, a former Royal Air Force officer who served for 23 years and was deployed to Iraq, the Falklands and Oman, was elected as Tewkesbury’s MP in the 2024 general election. He has previously criticised Elon Musk, calling the billionaire’s interest in the Southport riots a “nostalgia for white supremacy”.
In March, he travelled to Kyiv to deliver aid and was named on a Russian stop list. Thomas said the ban did not make “any immediate changes” to his travel plans and gave him “the greatest possible endorsement” of his parliamentary activity.
Gloucestershire Police and Thomas have been approached for comment.
