More than one million people are expected to line the streets of London on Saturday as the city’s historic Pride parade returns for its 2026 edition. Organisers predict that up to 1.5 million will descend on the capital to watch 35,000 marchers parade through Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus, with the procession kicking off at midday in Hyde Park and finishing at 6pm on Whitehall.
This year’s festivities are based around the campaign ‘An Alliance of Defiance’, highlighting how queer people stand together to support each other. The parade was first held in 1972, organised by the Gay Liberation Front and inspired by the Stonewall Riots in New York City.
“Up to 1.5 million expected for London Pride as 35,000 march through capital in day of celebration and activism.”
Celebrations will continue long into the night across the city. Three official stages have been announced: the cabaret stage on Dean Street will feature performances from drag artists including Danny Beard and Tia Kofi, while a trans and non-binary community stage in Soho Square – curated by Mzz Kimberley – will host speeches and acts from artists such as ARXX and Dr Helen Webberley. The line-up also includes the Groove Chorus ft. Louis Cypher and the Queer Asian Takeover.
Alongside the parade, The Independent has partnered with Pride in London to launch the Pride List for 2026, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community’s biggest trailblazers. This marks the fourth year of the list since its relaunch, decided by a panel of Independent staff. Previous honorees include activist Munroe Bergdorf, Olympic bronze-medal boxer Cindy Ngamba, and cabinet minister Wes Streeting, who is now vying to become Labour leader.
