Man City fans top arrest table as Foden signs new four-year deal

Manchester City supporters were arrested more than any other football fans in England and Wales last season, new government data has revealed, even as the club celebrated Phil Foden committing his future until 2030. The UK Government figures, accounting for data from 43 territorial police forces and the British Transport Police, show 102 City fans were arrested or subject to other police actions during the 2025-26 campaign – the highest of any club. Chelsea followed with 76, Manchester United with 67, Arsenal with 66 and Millwall with 63. Nationwide, there were 1,963 football-related arrests and police actions, a 4% decrease from the previous season despite a change in legislation in March that made unauthorised entry to a football stadium an offence under Schedule 1 of the Football Spectators Act 1989. Forty-five arrests and actions were linked to that new offence. Meanwhile, West Ham retained the most football banning orders with 121, while Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool all had supporters in the 80s. Portsmouth recorded the largest increase in arrests, rising from 16 to 55. Foden, meanwhile, signed a new four-year contract with City that includes an additional 12-month option, extending his stay to 2030. The 26-year-old, who made his first-team debut aged 17 under Pep Guardiola, has amassed 17 major honours including six Premier League titles and a Champions League. 'Committing my future to City means everything to me,' Foden said. 'Playing for this club is all I've ever wanted to do and it's always an honour to wear the shirt.' He expressed excitement about working again with Enzo Maresca, the new City manager who was Guardiola's assistant during the treble-winning 2022-23 season. 'I can't wait to work with Enzo again,' Foden said. 'He was brilliant during the treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with.' Foden's form has dipped since his career-best 27-goal, 12-assist season in 2023-24; last term he scored seven and assisted five in 33 Premier League appearances. He was left out of Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad in May. The new deal signals belief from Maresca and director of football Hugo Viana that Foden can recapture his best form. 'Personally, I know I've improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad,' Foden said. 'I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great club.'
