Residents of a seaside tower block in Westcliff-on-Sea were woken by a 'big scream and a crash of glass' as a man fell to his death from the 13th floor. Essex Police were called to Grampian Tower at 6am on Friday after reports of 'significant concern for a man outside the block'. Officers found the man just outside the building, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbour Steve Watkins, 48, said he heard 'a big scream and a crash of glass' moments before the impact. Another resident, Daryl Hall, 36, told the BBC: 'What I heard was a big bang followed by loads of screaming and shouting. Then, probably 10 minutes later, sirens.'
“A man died after falling from the 13th floor of a seaside tower block following an argument, police say.”
The Daily Mail reported that the man had an 'argument' moments before falling. It is not known what floor the man fell from, though the Mail said he plunged from the 13th floor. The tower block is 15 storeys high.
Essex Police said: 'His death is being treated as unexpected and is under investigation.' They appealed for anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage, particularly from in and around Grampian flats between 12am and 7am on Friday, to contact them.
