Manchester United’s hopes of a sizeable windfall from Mason Greenwood’s departure have been dashed after the collapse of his proposed move to Fenerbahce.
Hakan Safi, a candidate in the Turkish club’s presidential election, had claimed Greenwood agreed to join. But his opponent, Aziz Yildirim, won the vote, throwing any deal into doubt. United will not yet benefit from the 40% sell-on clause they negotiated when Greenwood left for Marseille.

The setback comes as United face uncertainty over Marcus Rashford’s future. Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in the forward, with the German champions exploring a move. United’s asking price has been set, though no formal bid has been made.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are preparing a £130million move for Michael Olise after re-electing Florentino Perez as president. Bayern’s president Herbert Hainer, however, insists the former Crystal Palace winger is not for sale, setting up a potential transfer battle.
But Real may have another target in mind. Sky Sports Germany reporter Patrick Berger believes the club could bid €150m for Julian Alvarez. Real are understood to have made enquiries about the Argentinian striker, and Atletico Madrid would be keen to sell if that offer arrives. Arsenal and Barcelona have also been linked with Alvarez.
In other news, Jose Mourinho wants to keep Aurelien Tchouameni at Real Madrid ahead of becoming head coach, according to The Sun. Manchester United are credited with an interest in the France international, who has been shortlisted as part of their midfield overhaul.
