Detectives are trawling through a DNA database in an unprecedented hunt for the family of a suspected double rapist, as they work through a list of genetic profiles in an effort to identify the attacker.

The man is accused of raping two “very vulnerable” women in broad daylight, police have said. The Metropolitan Police are using familial DNA searching – a technique that looks for partial matches to find relatives of the suspect – in the hope that a family member’s DNA will lead them to the perpetrator.
