Mollie King, the BBC Radio 1 presenter and former Saturdays singer, was rushed to hospital this weekend after collapsing unconscious on her bathroom floor at 4am, hitting her head and face as she fell. The 39-year-old, who has been absent from her Radio 1 show for the past fortnight, described the incident as a “huge shock” and a “real wake-up call” that she needs to take time to recover.

In an Instagram post, King, a mother of two, explained that she had returned home late from work and gone into the bathroom to get ready for bed when she suddenly collapsed. “After coming home late from work, I suddenly collapsed unconscious on the bathroom floor at 4am, hitting my head and face as I fell… I ended up being rushed to A E,” she wrote.

King credited her fiancé, former England cricketer Stuart Broad, with finding her and acting quickly. “I keep thinking how grateful I am that I wasn't on my own and had Stuart to bring me round after I fell,” she added. She noted that the scare had prompted her to prioritise her health: “I need to take some time to get my strength back, not just for my own health but so I can be the best version of myself for my family too.”

After what she called “a very long two weeks”, King shared a picture with one of her daughters, saying that the previous day had been her first social outing. “It was amazing to get out and spend time with my girls,” she wrote. “We even had the surprise of spotting Daddy on a big screen, which made us all smile.”

Radio 1 colleagues and fellow musicians were quick to send support. Co-host Matt Edmondson posted, “We’ve missed you!” while Saturdays bandmate Rochelle Humes wrote, “Sending you love.” Radio 1 presenter Melvin Odoom added, “Sending love, see you later,” suggesting King would return to air on Monday. Another former Saturdays member, Una Healy, commented, “Love you, get well soon and rest up.” Broad and Radio 1’s Jamie Laing simply replied with red heart emojis.

King, who co-hosts the weekend show with Edmondson, has not been on air since the collapse. The incident, she said, has been a stark reminder of the importance of health amidst her busy schedule.
