A file of evidence against the suspended Labour MP Dan Norris has been handed to the Crown Prosecution Service, paving the way for a possible charging decision over allegations including rape, sexual assault, voyeurism and upskirting.
The 66-year-old MP for North East Somerset and Hanham was first arrested in April 2025. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between the 2000s and the 2020s, involving three women who accuse him of rape, and a fourth who alleges sexual assault. The investigation also includes claims of voyeurism and upskirting.
“Police have sent a file to the CPS for a charging decision after suspended Labour MP Dan Norris was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual offences.”
Norris, a former West of England mayor, has consistently denied the allegations. "I vigorously and entirely deny the serious allegations made against me. They are untrue," he said previously. "I am challenging them through my legal representatives."
Avon and Somerset Police, whose Operation Bluestone team is leading the investigation, confirmed the file had been submitted to the CPS. "As a result of our enquiries, a file has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider a charging decision," the force said. "We’ve updated the victims about this significant development, and we'll continue to make sure they have access to any help or support they need." They urged the public not to speculate on the circumstances.
The Labour Party said it "immediately suspended" Norris after learning of his arrest. The suspension removed the party whip, meaning he can no longer sit as a Labour MP in the Commons. Despite this, Norris has refused to resign his seat and now sits as an independent. He has not attended the House of Commons since his arrest, though he is still able to vote by proxy.
The investigation, which began in December 2024, is being conducted by officers from the dedicated rape and serious sexual assault investigation team. The CPS will now decide whether to press charges.
