Lee Greenan, the man charged with murdering his ex-partner Vikki Soloman, has been found dead at HMP Edinburgh — a death that leaves her family without the answers a trial would have provided.
Greenan, 46, was arrested after walking into the Mid Yoken pub “covered in blood” and confessing to the killing, according to a local witness. “After killing Vikki, he walked into the pub covered in blood and said he’d murdered his partner. It was shocking, like something out of a film,” the witness told the Daily Record. “It is tragic how this has played out. The families and friends of Vikki and Lee are in shock.”

Vikki Soloman, 44, died at a property on Craigievar Square in the East Craigs area of Edinburgh on Monday, July 20. Emergency services were called at around 8.45pm and found her with serious injuries. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The property was cordoned off for forensic examination, while the Mid Yoken pub, just over a mile away, was locked down and guarded by police.
Greenan appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday charged with Vikki’s murder and two charges of assault. He was remanded in custody. But on Sunday, just six days after the killing, the Scottish Prison Service confirmed he had been found dead at HMP Edinburgh. It is understood he died by suicide.
The Mid Yoken pub issued a statement saying police investigations concerned an incident outside the pub and offered condolences to Vikki’s family.
A women’s network Vikki was part of released a statement highlighting the scourge of domestic violence. “Vikki was a member of our community and last night she was killed in her home. There are no words to describe how horrific this incident is, and the trail of devastation it has left,” it said. “Nearly half of women killed in Scotland are killed by a partner or ex-partner, and 89 per cent of domestic abuse happens inside the home, the place we’re supposed to feel safest. Police Scotland recorded over 66,000 domestic abuse incidents last year, and campaigners say that’s still only the visible part of it.”
Friends paid tribute to Vikki, describing her as “beautiful” and “a diamond”. Lisa Mullen said: “Thoughts to friends and family! You are a diamond, a beautiful person, until we see each other again.” Arlene Mill added: “You were beautiful inside and out.”
Greenan was well known locally, playing for Clermiston Star football team. His death in custody means Vikki’s family will never see him face a jury — a trial that might have given them the answers they now must live without.
