One lucky ticket holder could be waking up a millionaire after the National Lottery’s Lotto draw on Saturday July 4 – with an estimated £3.9m jackpot up for grabs. The winning numbers in round one were 7, 20, 33, 48, 57, 59, with a bonus ball of 47. Round two produced 14, 20, 22, 38, 39, 41, and a bonus ball of 49. Ten ticket holders are guaranteed to win £1m prizes in tonight’s draw, according to the operator Allwyn.
The new two‑round format, which gives players two chances to win for every £2 ticket, has improved the odds of winning any prize from one in 9.3 to one in 4.9. But the chance of matching all six numbers for the jackpot remains astronomical – about one in 45,057,474. The Thunderball draw, offering a top prize of £500,000, also took place, with winning numbers 2, 5, 11, 25, 26 and a Thunderball of 4. The odds of scooping that top prize are roughly one in 8,060,598.
“Winning Lotto numbers for July 4 have been drawn, with one player on course to win the £3.9m jackpot.”
Since the first Lotto draw on 19 November 1994, the National Lottery has distributed around half of all ticket sales as prizes, with 28% going to good causes, 12% to government duty, 5% to retailers and 5% to the operator, Allwyn. The biggest ever Lotto win came in April 2016, when a single anonymous ticket‑holder took home £35m. More recently, last month a syndicate of retired Port Talbot Tata Steel workers won £1m on the EuroMillions after matching the Millionaire Maker code.
With the odds now stacked slightly more in players’ favour, the question remains: will tonight’s £3.9m jackpot be claimed – and by whom?
