NHS nurse and single mother marries King Charles's nephew in Gloucestershire wedding

King Charles and Queen Camilla joined the Prince and Princess of Wales on Saturday for a private wedding that brought together two families — and marked the newest addition to the Royal Family: an NHS nurse.

Peter Phillips, 48, the nephew of King Charles and son of the Princess Royal, married Harriet Sperling, 45, at All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucestershire. The couple's engagement had been announced in August 2025, with a statement saying the Royal Family were "delighted with the wonderful news."

Sperling, accompanied into the church by her teenage daughter Georgina, works as a paediatric nurse specialist for the NHS and also writes as a freelance journalist. Under her maiden name Harriet Sanders, she penned a column for Christian magazine Woman Alive, describing her experiences as a single mother.

"My daughter and I journeyed 10 years with only each other," she wrote. "I liken us to an island and it has often felt hard to imagine anyone joining that island."

Phillips has two daughters of his own — Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14 — from his previous marriage to Autumn Phillips, which ended in divorce in 2021. Sarah, Duchess of York, and her daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were also among the guests.

The couple first met at a sporting event attended by their daughters, according to Hello! magazine, and were soon spotted hand-in-hand at social events. In June they attended Royal Ascot as guests of the King and Queen, taking part in the traditional carriage procession onto the racecourse. Last month they were present at Prince William's charity polo matches, and the year before they had been in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.

The ceremony, a private affair, was held under overcast skies — prompting umbrellas as the royal party arrived and departed.
