A prison officer has admitted kissing a convicted killer in a workshop at HMP Belmarsh, one of Britain’s highest-security jails. Michelle Molver, 30, who helps inmates find jobs after release, is accused of an “inappropriate relationship” with Kemai Mathurine, 23 – a man serving life with a minimum of 18 years for his role in the gang murder of innocent Joseph Torres in East London in 2020.
Molver, who graduated with a first-class honours degree in criminology from Leeds Beckett University, appeared at Woolwich Crown Court where she admitted the kiss but denied misconduct in public office. Nigel Leskin, defending, said: “She admits to a relationship but this extended only as far as letters and kissing. She does not accept this amounts to misconduct in public office.”

The court heard the kiss took place in the workshop of HMP Belmarsh in Woolwich, South East London – a prison that houses high-profile offenders and national security risk prisoners. Molver, from Chadwell Heath, Essex, was granted unconditional bail. Her trial is scheduled for 2029, delayed by a backlog of cases.
