Rooney, Hart and Richards row down Hudson River after World Cup bet

Wayne Rooney made a pledge live on television: if Norway beat Brazil in the World Cup last 16, he would row down the River Mersey. Norway did exactly that, stunning the five-time champions 2-1. So the former England striker, now a BBC Sport pundit, confirmed on air that he would honour the bet – but relocated the challenge to the United States. He swapped his microphone for an oar, joined by fellow pundits Joe Hart and Micah Richards, and the trio took to the Hudson River in New York. "I loved it," Rooney said. "The fans were brilliant. So we've done it out of respect for the fans." Norway's Viking row, a celebration that became a sensation at the tournament, prompted the stunt. Even Norway striker Erling Haaland got involved, saying: "Wayne, I expect you to go out on a rowing trip." Haaland's side were later knocked out by England in the quarter-finals. Now the three pundits return to dry land alongside Gabby Logan for Sunday's World Cup final at 20:00 BST, live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Before that, England face France in the third-place match on Saturday at 22:00, also live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
