Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested by US Marshals in Miami on Saturday after British prosecutors unveiled 38 new charges against the brothers, bringing the total number of offences they face in the UK to 59.
The Crown Prosecution Service said it had formally requested the extradition of the dual US-UK citizens, who are now in custody and awaiting proceedings to return to Britain. The arrest warrant remains sealed, and the pair are expected to make their initial court appearance in Florida early next week.

The 38 new charges – authorised by the CPS following a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police – include seven additional counts of rape against Andrew Tate, 39, along with three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 charges relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. His brother Tristan, 38, faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The alleged offences span from July 2010 to August 2017, and bring the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven, according to Malcolm McHaffie, head of the Special Crime Division at the CPS. “These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police,” McHaffie said. He reminded the public that criminal proceedings are active and that the defendants have the right to a fair trial, urging no reporting or commentary that could prejudice the case.
Joseph McBride, a lawyer for the brothers, dismissed the new charges as “filth and slander” designed to counter a defamation action the Tates have filed in the US. “The world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent,” McBride said in a statement, describing the UK charges as a “political hit”. He added: “We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain’s political dirty work.”
The arrests were carried out under standard extradition procedures, a US Department of Justice spokesperson said. Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire police have been investigating a number of offences in what they called a “complex investigation”, with the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit continuing to probe other reports.
The Tates, former kickboxers who moved to Romania in 2016, were previously arrested there in 2022 in a separate sexual exploitation investigation. After a Romanian travel ban was lifted last year, they travelled to the US, where they have built a large following on the American right and are vocal supporters of President Donald Trump. Both brothers have consistently denied any wrongdoing.
