“Two boys aged 14 and 16 and a 33-year-old man charged with murder after Gino Robb was stabbed in Newcastle.”
After the incident, two men aged 22 and 24 and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of murder, but later released on bail pending further inquiries. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of two men aged 40 and 33 and another 16-year-old boy in the Walker area of the city on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. The 40-year-old was released on police bail.
A 14-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of murder. Now, Jed Grieve, 33, of Orpington Avenue, Walker, along with the 14-year-old and a 16-year-old – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – have been charged with murder. All three have been remanded in custody and will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Monday, 22 June.
Detective Chief Inspector Atherton of Northumbria Police's Major Investigation Team said: "Our thoughts are firmly with Gino's family and loved ones after the tragic events of Tuesday evening. We continue to provide them with all possible support and request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."
He added that the investigation "remains very much ongoing", with further inquiries being carried out in the Byker and Walker areas. Police are appealing for anyone who saw two people on an electric motorbike that entered Shields Road from the Grace Street area in the minutes leading up to the incident, before heading back along Shields Road and into Grace Street. They are also seeking CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage of the area around that time.
"Thank you to those who have contacted us so far," Atherton said, "and if you do have information or footage which could assist us, please get in touch so that we can provide Gino's family with the answers they deserve."
