Two easyJet flights departed from the wrong positions on the runway during the peak of last summer, a report by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has revealed. On 13 June 2025, an Airbus A320-214 carrying 180 passengers and six crew took off further down the runway at London Luton than the crew had planned. The aircraft, flight EZY2335, landed at Málaga Costa del Sol Airport and returned to Luton later that day before the captain realised the mistake. The plane was just 65ft above the ground when it cleared the runway, according to the AAIB.
Three weeks later, on 6 July 2025, another easyJet Airbus A320 departing Manchester Airport also began its take-off from the wrong runway point. The aircraft, bound for the Greek island of Kos, continued its journey without further incident, but investigators described the event as a “serious safety occurrence” that could have had more significant consequences under different circumstances.
“Two easyJet flights took off from wrong runway points last summer, with one just 65ft above ground.”
EasyJet said it has conducted a review of its take-off operating procedures following the incident. A spokesperson told Metro: “We are aware of the report and fully assisted the AAIB with its investigation. We will always take action to ensure we maintain the highest standards of safety.”
Meanwhile, the airline has also offered advice to passengers looking for cheaper fares. EasyJet recommends booking flights on Wednesdays or Thursdays rather than Fridays to find bargains. For warm-weather destinations like Spain or Italy, the cheapest months are January and February; for winter destinations such as Finland, November or March offer lower prices. The airline, which operates a fleet of 355 aircraft connecting 164 airports across 38 countries on 1,207 routes, suggests using its Low Fare Finder to secure the best deals.
